The G-Unit founder recently secured a victory in Shreveport when the City Council voted unanimously to approve a new downtown economic development district funded by his investments.

Shreveport City Council voted to approve a new economic development district backed by entrepreneur Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson.

On Tuesday, September 23, as reported by KSLA News 12, Shreveport Council members unanimously approved the Film and Entertainment District Gateway Economic Development District.

The district will encompass parts of downtown, such as the Red River District, the former Millennium studio, and Stage Works, along with other downtown locations. Many of these areas are owned or leased by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

According to city officials, 50 Cent is prepared to invest approximately $50 million in the Shreveport Downtown area.

He sought guarantees from the city that they were supportive, and the council hopes this new district demonstrates their commitment.

Details of the approved project:

  • Purpose: The new "Film and Entertainment District Gateway Economic Development District" will fund redevelopment in downtown Shreveport, including areas Jackson owns or leases.

  • Funding: A 2% sales tax will be levied on purchases within the district to finance the economic development projects. The tax will be collected from customers, but also impacts Jackson's own businesses within the district. Jackson is reportedly investing $50 million of his own money into purchasing and redeveloping downtown properties.

  • Project scope: The district will include properties such as the former Millennium Studios and the Stageworks venue. Jackson's company, G-Unit, intends to transform these spaces into a bustling entertainment and production hub. Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 or the first quarter of 2026.

  • Previous approvals: The September 22 vote was a crucial step, following previous approvals by the city council. In March 2025, the council unanimously approved a 30-year lease agreement for Jackson's G-Unit to operate the Stageworks facility as a sports and entertainment venue.
