Bill Cosby’s Sex Assault Conviction Overturned By Court.
Bill Cosby to Be Released From Prison After Pennsylvania Court Overturns Conviction
On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said they found that an agreement with a prior prosecutor prevented charging in this case.
Per the Associated Press, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court argued testimony from additional accusers in Cosby’s retrial had “tainted” the proceedings, despite the fact that a lower court had found the added testimony to be appropriate in showing a pattern of assault.
In other words, Cosby’s conviction was overturned over a technicality.
Cosby, 83, has been behind bars for a little over two years in a state prison near Philadelphia.
He had vowed to serve all 10 years rather than acknowledge any remorse over the 2004 encounter with accuser Andrea Constand.
The 83-year-old Cosby, who was once beloved as “America’s Dad,” was convicted of alleged drugging and molesting the Temple University employee at his suburban estate.
He was charged in late 2015, when a prosecutor armed with newly unsealed evidence — Cosby’s damaging deposition from her lawsuit — arrested him days before the 12-year statute of limitations expired.
At the time of this writing, it wasn’t clear whether prosecutors intended to appeal Wednesday’s decision.
