On Tuesday (Aug. 8), the Canadian rapper/singer received a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, and many rap peers and fans have taken to social media to voice their opinions.

Boosie Badazz, who reacted to the news via an Instagram Livestream with his fans: “He ain't gon' do nothing but three years on that,” Boosie said in the video below. “Louisiana, he would have got 40 [years]. I got 10 years for third-offense marijuana. Twenty-five grams, a couple grams and some more grams. He'll be back, stronger than ever. You can't take his talent away. He gon' be back.”

Prosecutors had asked Judge David Herriford to sentence him to 13 years, while Tory’s lawyers sought the lower term of three years.

Lanez legal team had also requested probation and enrollment into a drug treatment program, claiming the rapper was suffering from alcoholism — which they said stemmed from childhood trauma — at the time of the alleged crime.

Last December, Tory Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) was found guilty of assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a gun. As legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff reported, the disgraced Canadian artist spoke for several minutes during his Tuesday sentencing, calling Megan Thee Stallion “my friend” and “someone I still care for dearly to this day.” He also talked about how they bonded over the loss of their mothers. “We would sit there and drink, and drink until we got numb,” Lanez was said to have revealed in court.
