LAPD confirms to ABC News and Variety following Sunday night altercation at the Oscars ─ Chris Rock has “declined to file a police report” following an altercation with Will Smith at the 94th Academy Awards. Smith took to the stage during the 2022 Oscars and slapped Rock after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith baldhead.
The statement reads from the Los Angeles Police Department: “LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”
As previously reported, Will Smith walked on stage and slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars before returning to his seat and telling the comedian to keep his “wife’s name out” his “fucking mouth.”
“Wow, Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me,” Rock said, to which Smith responded, “Keep my wife’s name out your fucking mouth.” After taking a moment to collect himself in wake of this unprecedented moment, the comedian quipped, “That was the greatest night in the history of television.”
It immediately happened after Rock joked about Jada’s hair and said she was set to star in a sequel to G.I. Jane.
