Anything from Glory, to Mo’ Better Blues or even Training Day, Equalizer and Fences, it’s always a list of some of the best films. Whatever the choice is, it’s easy to see that Denzel has made it to Hollywood’s elite. But how he made it there is a series of calculated moves and decisions that helped shape his life.
One of Hollywood's most-loved Icons Denzel Washington celebrates his birthday on Tuesday (December 28), Denzel is one of the most widely celebrated actors in the world and he is well known for playing characters that grace, dignity, humanity, and inner strength defines in most of his roles.
Washington was born in Mount Vernon, New York. His father, Denzel Hayes Washington, Sr., was an ordained Pentecostal minister, and also worked for the Water Department and at a local department store. His mother, Lennis “Lynne” (née Lowe), was a beauty parlor owner and operator born in Georgia and partly raised in Harlem.
Denzel has won countless awards, including three Golden Globe awards, a Tony Award and two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for the historical war drama film Glory, and Best Actor for his role as corrupt detective Alonzo Harris in Training Day.
