JAY-Z to Receive NAACP President’s Award

Previous recipients of the honor include Jesse Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Soledad O’Brien, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Muhammad Ali.

The NAACP on Thursday announced that Jay-Z will receive the President's Award during the 50th NAACP Image Awards.

The honor is a special recognition award bestowed upon individuals by NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson. Last year’s winner was actor Danny Glover; past recipients include Spike Lee, Lauryn Hill, Ella Fitzgerald, John Legend, and others.



JAY-Z will accept the honor at this year’s 50th NAACP Image Awards, set to take place March 30 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Actor Anthony Anderson will host, while presenters include Lupita Nyong'o, Sanaa Lathan, Viola Davis, Winston Duke, Kerry Washington, and more. Jay-Z and Meek Mill have joined forces to push for criminal justice reform.

In a press conference they had on Wednesday (Jan. 23), the two rappers announced Reform Alliance, a new criminal justice reform organization Meek previously spoke about back in July.
