Lil Wayne seemed unbothered by the potential threat of AI-generated music despite it raising concerns in the industry.
Lil Wayne doubts AI’s capability to Recreate his voice: ‘I'm One Of A Kind’
Weezy said he doesn’t think AI will be able to catch up and match his unique skillset in the studio because of his originality.
Billboard debuted their new cover story on Wednesday (August 2), with Weezy aka Lil Wayne where he talked about his legendary rap career. The Young Money head honcho, who was ranked at No. 7 on Billboard and Vibe's 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time list earlier this year, also gave props to some of his favorite artists by revealing a new list of his favorite rappers of all time. The new list is slightly different from the list the New Orleans rapper offered back in 2018 when he was tasked to come up with the same rank. This time, Weezy crowned Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, UGK, Goodie Mob and The Notorious B.I.G. his best rappers, in that order.
Lil Wayne isn’t fazed about artificial intelligence’s ability to reproduce his talent on the mic, explaining that it’s hard to recreate “one of a kind.”
“Someone asked me about that recently. And they were trying to tell me that AI could make a voice that sounds just like me. But it’s not me, because I’m amazing,”
Wayne continued. “I’m like, ‘Is this AI thing going to be amazing too?’ Because I am naturally, organically amazing. I’m one of a kind. So actually, I would love to see that thing try to duplicate this motherfucker.”
