On this day December 18 it was declared by New York State Senate “DMX Day”

New York celebrated its first DMX day on Saturday.

The city celebrated what would have been DMX’s 51st birthday, and it was also the first official DMX Day in his home state of New York. Following the rapper’s death earlier this year, December 18th was formally declared Earl “DMX” Simmons Day in a resolution by the New York State Senate. Senator Jamaal Bailey, who co-sponsored the resolution, spoke on the Senate floor about the impact of DMX’s life and music. Rest In Peace “X”!

Check out Senator Bailey’s remarks on DMX's passing from April and Hot 97's tribute below.

In a resolution introduced by State Senator Jamal Bailey back in April, the state declared December 18th to be Earl “DMX” Simmons Day.

“In New York, we have our own hip-hop royalty. He’s the Earl of Westchester County. He is DMX, he is one of the greatest hip hop artists that we will ever know," Bailey said at the time. "May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing."
