The hip-hop community lost Nipsey Hussle, a widely respected artist with top-tier craftsmanship, endless musical curiosity and plenty of positive energy.
Tuesday marks the first anniversary of Hussle's death and his popularity and influence pushes forward as strong as ever. He won two posthumous Grammys in January, he remains a favorite of his hip-hop peers and his death has reshaped his hometown of Los Angeles in some unexpected ways.
Rapper Nipsey Hussle's final tweet shared hours before he was fatally shot in Los Angeles on Sunday was one dedicated to his enemies. It reads:"Having strong enemies is a blessing," the 33-year-old wrote.
Hussle was shot multiple times in the parking lot at Marathon Clothing in South Los Angeles at about 3:25 p.m. and pronounced dead at a hospital,police sources said. One of the two men who were wounded were being treated at a hospital, and the other declined treatment, Los Angeles police Lt. Chris Martinez said.
The year since Nipsey Hussle was gunned down has not diminished the rapper’s legacy, but rather cemented it and continues to prove true his catchphrase, “The Marathon Continues.”
