Kevin Durant and Mike Conley Jr. Win First Oscars For “Two Distant Strangers”
Kevin Durant, Mike Conley Jr, and Durant’s business manager Rich Kleiman were executive producers on the Academy Award-winning “Two Distant Strangers” (Best Live-Action Short Film). They join Kobe Bryant as Oscar winners from the NBA.
Tyler Perry’s Powerful Oscars Speech Asks the World to ‘Refuse Hate’
Viola Davis introduced Perry with glowing remarks. "Tyler Perry personifies empathy," she said. "Tyler knows what it is to be hungry, to be without a home, to feel unsafe and uncertain. So when he buys groceries for 1,000 of his neighbors, supports a women's shelter, or quietly pays tuition for a hard-working student, Tyler is coming from a place of shared experience."
Perry dedicated his acceptance speech to "anyone who wants to stand in the middle -- no matter what's around the walls."
Daniel Kaluuya wins Academy Award for best supporting actor 'Judas and the Black Messiah'
The "Judas and the Black Messiah" actor ran the table through award season all the way to Oscar glory for playing Black Panther Party Illinois chairman Fred Hampton. He shared the award with his castmates and filmmakers, and honored Hampton: "Bro, what a man. How blessed we are to have lived in a lifetime where he existed. Thank you for your light. ... Thank you so much for showing me myself." He also found some time to embarrass family members: "My mum, my dad, they had sex. It's amazing!"
Joey Badass, Travon Free and Diddy win Oscar for ‘Two Distant Strangers’
The movie was directed by Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe, and Joey Bada$$ stars in it, while Diddy serves as executive producer. Jesse Williams, Lawrence Bender and Chris Uettwiller have producing credits, as well.
