Usher adds himself to ‘R&B Mount Rushmore’ next to Michael Jackson, Prince & Whitney Houston

The legendary R&B, Grammy-winning artist, will be headlining the halftime show at the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

The R&B superstar believes he belongs on Mt. Rushmore with the Late Icons

Usher puts himself on R&B Mount Rushmore with Michael Jackson, Prince, and Whitney Houston.

During a recent interview with E! News, the singer told Carolina Bermudez his personal R&B Mt. Rushmore, a classic way to rank someone's four most important faves. “I get to put myself up there,” he said out the gate. “Marvin Gaye is going up there, Michael [Jackson] is going to be up there, Prince is going to be up there, and I’d put a few incredible female vocalists like Whitney Houston up there. It doesn’t necessarily have to just be men.”

The interview comes ahead of Usher’s upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show, where he’ll take the stage on Feb. 11 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The singer told the outlet that he knew about the headlining gig since August but had to keep the secret from his family and kids, the latter of whom told him to pray for the opportunity.

“The affirmations of calling things into existence is a real thing, and I’m definitely really excited about what’s going to happen that night,”

Usher added. Detailing about his highly-anticipated performance under wraps but mentioned he was studying past performers including Michael Jackson and Prince’s iconic headlining sets. Interestingly enough, the R&B singer also found inspiration from Maroon 5’s 2019 performance. “I remember seeing Adam Levine take his shirt off,” he said with a laugh. “Okay, shirtless man. I got the license, I can do that part, right?”

Who do you think belongs on the R&B Mt. Rushmore?
