Twitter reacts after T-Pain reveals in the Netflix series "This Is Pop" that Usher called him out about using Auto-Tune.
T-Pain says he battled 4 years of depression after Usher said he 'f---ed up music' by using Auto-Tune
In a new clip from the Netflix series This Is Pop, the Tallahassee vet talks about a 2013 flight he took around the BET Awards. While he was sleeping, a flight attendant woke him up and explain that Usher wanted to speak with him.
“I was awakened by the flight attendant,” T-Pain says in the clip, “She said ‘Usher would like to talk to you in the back.’” T-Pain made his way the back of the plane, where Usher told him that he had “fucked up” music for “real singers,” presumably referring to T-Pain’s exaggerated used of Autotune. “I don’t even think I realized this for a long time,” he says, “but that’s the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”
T-Pain continued: "Usher was my friend. I really respect Usher. T-Pain said that he chuckled when Usher told him that, but then realized the singer was serious.
T-Pain explains in the preview clip of the show, that conversation was the “very moment that started a four-year depression for me.” Of course, the conversation came a few years after Jay-Z publicly slammed Auto-Tune in Blueprint 3 single “DOA,” but the singer says the Usher moment was the one that did it—despite not realizing so until years later.
