50 Cent responds to Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York City’s mayoral race
New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani made his entrance to Ja Rule's song “New York,” which features Fat Joe and Jadakiss. This track was the second single from the Queens-born artist's 2004 album, R.U.L.E.
Zohran Mamdani made his official introduction as the mayor-elect of New York City by coming out to Ja Rule's “New York” last night.
On Tuesday (Nov. 4), Mamdani triumphed over independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa in the NYC mayoral election. This victory marks a significant milestone in several areas, as the 34-year-old politician becomes the first South Asian, Muslim, and millennial to be elected mayor of N.Y.C. When Mamdani appeared on stage at his election night watch party at the Brooklyn Paramount to celebrate his victory, he made his entrance to Ja Rule's 2004 Empire State anthem, “New York.”
50, on the other hand, has persisted in criticizing Mamdani on his preferred platform, Instagram. On Tuesday morning, he addressed Mamdani's walkout, which was set to a Ja Rule soundtrack, saying “of course he would walk out to that fool.”

Mamdani's passion for hip-hop is widely recognized. In his early political career, he also pursued rapping. In 2016, using the stage name Young Cardamom, he collaborated with Ugandan artist HAB to release an EP called Sidda Mukyaalo. In 2019, Mamdani released a single named “Nani,” dedicated to his grandmother.
50 Cent appears to be displeased with Mamdani's victory and song choice. Following the announcement of Mamdani as the winner, Fif posted a photo of a tombstone on his Instagram page, which stated: “RIP New York City Founded 1624 Died 2025.”
“R.I.P. NYC,” 50 Cent captioned the post.
In a follow-up post, 50 shared a clip of Mamdani's celebration speech where he addresses President Trump by saying, “I have four words for you: Turn the volume up.”
50 captioned the post, “3 words: No funding coming! NYC finished.”
Zohran Mamdani is taking over from Eric Adams and will officially begin his term on January 1, 2026.
