During the filming of Spike Lee's "Highest 2 Lowest," the duo engaged in an impromptu freestyle, with the Oscar-winner coming out on top.

Spike Lee's film "Highest 2 Lowest," featuring ASAP Rocky and Denzel Washington, premiered this week.
A$AP Rocky not only appeared alongside Denzel Washington in the eagerly awaited movie Highest 2 Lowest, but it seems he also lost a rap battle to the two-time Academy Award winner.
Spike Lee and A$AP Rocky appeared on the recent episode of the podcast Million Dollaz Worth Of Game to promote their upcoming crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest. In the interview, Rocky shared that his co-star Denzel Washington initiated an unexpected freestyle rap battle during the filming of a scene, which Rocky quickly lost.
In one scene, Washington improvised using lines from Nas, Tupac, DMX, and others, taking Rocky by surprise. “What is it, a rap battle?” he asked.
“That was crazy because I did not know that that man was such a fan of hip-hop like that,” Rocky commented on Washington. “I presumed that he was on some Miles Davis s**t, maybe some Alice Coltrane. […] Yo, your man came on set talking about Moneybagg Yo lyrics, NLE Choppa lyrics, DMX lyrics. So in the scene, he just start freestyling like regular, so it caught me off guard, but I was fanning out the whole time. […] And just to see him freestyle, he got me up out of there. I lost a battle to Denzel.”
Spike Lee also praised Washington for his exceptional acting skills.
“Denzel is such a powerful force. Not a derogatory term, but he’s a beast,” Spike stated Lee. “Rocky is from Harlem, uptown. So I knew that he’s not going to punk out. He’s going to stand there, feet planted to the ground, as a heavyweight fight, blow to blow to blow. If you got somebody who don’t got it, Denzel is going to slaughter them. SLAUGHTER.”
Highest 2 Lowest, which A24 releases in theaters on Friday, will be available on Apple TV+ two weeks after that.
