Happy Birthday GiGi Bryant.
A life truly cut too short: Gianna Bryant, was only 13 when she died, was going to carry on a basketball legacy.
On Sunday, many people were in mourning after it was announced that influential basketball star Kobe Bryant had died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, at just 41 years old. As if things couldn’t get any worse, it was soon revealed that Kobe’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, was also a passenger in the plane and didn’t survive the crash.
Her name was Gianna Maria Onore Bryant. The world, now and forever, knows her as Gigi. Her dad, Kobe Bryant, called her Mambacita. He was Mamba, of course, and she was going to be basketball’s female version of him. She was going to play at Connecticut and head to the WNBA. That was the plan.
Gianna, was already showing a commitment to the game of basketball similar to her father. Kobe consistently praised her talents in various interviews.
The WNBA honored Gianna Bryant, Payton Chester and Alyssa Altobelli, who were among the nine killed in a January helicopter crash that also claimed the life of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, by selecting the three girls as honorary draft picks to open Friday’s WNBA draft.
Vanessa, with tears in her eyes, added, "Kobe and GiGi loved the WNBA.
