The Roc Nation Founder on Performing at the Super Bowl: 'Maybe One Year’
Jay-Z has hinted at the possibility of performing at an upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show.
In early 2024, JAY-Z expressed that he found it "selfish" to choose himself as the headliner for the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
In 2019, the head of Roc Nation took on the role of the NFL's live music entertainment strategist and serves as a producer for the halftime show, but he has not yet performed on stage himself. He jokingly noted that choosing himself would seem self-serving.
When questioned about performing, JAY-Z mentioned to Entertainment Tonight, "I felt it would be selfish to choose myself too soon. "Maybe One Year". The comment was made regarding JAY-Z's position as the NFL's "live music entertainment strategist," which allows him to have a say in selecting performers for significant NFL events, such as the Super Bowl.
If JAY-Z were to choose himself as the headliner, it would seem like a conflict of interest due to his role in managing the selection process. His comment recognized this.
