Lil Wayne honored with BMI Icon Award in Miami


The award comes after Lil Wayne was named BMI’s ‘Songwriter of the Year’ four times during his career.

BMI celebrates 2023 R&B/HipHop Award winners, honors Lil Wayne with Icon Award


Lil Wayne honored as BMI Icon at the 2023 Bmi R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.


On Wednesday night, (September 6), the Young Money founder took the stage at LIV Nightclub inside the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach to accept the Icon Award at the 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.


Weezy was joined by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) President & CEO Mike O'Neill, who presented him with the silver trophy. “First of all, I want to thank God of course," Wayne said during his acceptance speech.


“Thank my family of course. My people, my Young Money family but, most importantly, it's all about the fans.”

 

Lil Wayne now has 53 BMI Awards. In addition, he won five Grammy Awards throughout his career.

Lil Wayne joins the likes of previous Icon Award winners like Busta Rhymes, who was honored last year, Janet Jackson, Patti LaBelle, Snoop Dogg, and others.


Additionally, For this year's R&B/HipHop BMI Icon Award: Lil Yachty, Tay Keith and RIOTUSA were named "Producer of the Year" while other hitmakers like ATL Jacob and LunchMoney Lewis were also honored. Doja Cat, Tems and Chris Brown also received "Songwriter of the Year" while Lizzo's "About Damn Time" won "Song of the Year." This year's Impact Award winner was none other than Ice Spice.
