No rap songs have landed in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 — The last rap song to chart was Drake’s “What Did I Miss?”

It's been a full nine months since a hip-hop song made it into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Hip-Hop’s Billboard drought continues 9 Months after Drizzy’s dropped “What Did I Miss?”

Drake is expected to break the drought with the release of his upcoming studio album, "Iceman," although a release date has yet to be announced.

The rap game is experiencing its longest drought in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 since the streaming era began, with no rap song reaching the top 10 since Drake's “What Did I Miss?” (or similarly positioned tracks in late summer 2025) roughly nine months prior.

The last track to reach the upper part of the chart was Drake's single "What Did I Miss?" in July 2025. As a result, fans are worried about the condition of the genre that once dominated.

Drake released "What Did I Miss?" as the lead single from Iceman on July 5, 2025. It reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. However, despite its high debut, it didn't maintain its position for long, dropping out of the top 30 within a month.

Kendrick Lamar and SZA's hit single “Luther” departed the Billboard Hot 100 following rule changes to the chart that removed the record after 46 weeks, of which the song spent 13 weeks at Number One. The record was still a Top 40 hit — landing at No.

Due to Billboard's recurrent rule changes. While "Luther" is generally classified as a hip-hop/R&B ballad rather than straight rap.

In October 2025, Billboard reported that no rap songs appeared in the chart’s top 40 for the first time since February 2, 1990. At the time, NBA YoungBoy's “Shot Callin,” was the highest at No. 44.

This period marks the longest stretch without a rap song in the top 10 since the 1990s, with multiple sources noting a complete absence of the genre from the upper echelon of the Hot 100 for over nine months.
