The Canadian singer request to be released from custody while he works on appealing his Megan Thee Stallion shooting conviction has been denied by Judge David Herriford.
On Thursday (Sept. 14), Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, appeared in court for a hearing to decide if he would be granted bail while his legal team attempts a last-ditch effort to appeal his prison sentence. Legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff, who has extensively covered the case surrounding the 2020 shooting, reported that Lanez was now “headed to prison” after his motion was denied by Los Angeles Judge David Herriford.
Lanez, who has been in the Los Angeles County Jail, was hoping the judge would allow him to be freed before he's sent to state prison while he goes through the process of appealing his decade-long sentence.
The singer reportedly to be in good spirits, despite the ruling. According to reports, He smiled at his family and supporters before being escorted out of the courtroom.
Despite Baez No-show in court with Tory Lanez, His attorneys were Crystal Morgan and Michael Hayden of the nonprofit legal group Unite the People, which is representing him for his appeal. The group’s CEO and director, Caesar McDowell, previously spoke about Peterson’s character during his sentencing hearing, noting that Peterson has donated time and resources to the organization.
