Mike Jones still has his iconic “Back Then” phone number, Says It’s ‘connected with me for life’

281-330-8004, hit Mike Jones up on the low.

“Thanks to all y’all who believed,” Mike Jones said.

Mike Jones expresses gratitude to fans for preserving his phone number: ‘It’s a connection for life.’

For those who grew up with 2000s hip-hop, the phone number 281-330-8004 is indelibly etched in their memory. This is, of course, the number Mike Jones famously raps about in his 2005 anthem “Back Then.”

Immortalized in the music and merchandise of Houston rap icon Mike Jones, the number has offered fans and aspiring collaborators the opportunity to possibly connect with him for over twenty years.

While the number was once not associated with Jones, it has recently been restored to its rightful owner, as confirmed in several updates over the past few years from the “Still Tippin’” artist.

“The [number] was ringing back to back before it came out the BOX!!” Jones told fans in an Instagram update shared on Tuesday (Jan. 6). “This [number] is connected with me for life lmao, thanks to all y'all who believed, who still call to this day!! Some call just to say what’s up and some call JUST to say thank u! Some call for shows & features, but I may go live and just answer calls from fans live!! So y'all can see [and] feel the organic love that comes thru this phone!!!”

In January 2025, Jones, who holds several Gold and Platinum certifications from the RIAA, explained why he chose to widely share his number, despite the expected inconveniences. According to Jones, a primary reason for this decision, especially early in his career, was to protect fans from being deceived by fake shows organized by fraudulent promoters.

“I wanted to be accessible [and] hands on with my fans [and] supporters,” he said at the time.

This March, Jones is scheduled to perform at the Paul Wall Birthday Bash event in Houston. He will share the stage with fellow Texan legends Wall and Slim Thug, both of whom featured on the classic 2004 track “Still Tippin’.”
