Tyler Perry donates $1.4 million to support Atlanta families dealing with food insecurity amid government shutdown

Film mogul Tyler Perry has donated $1.4 million to assist individuals affected by the food crisis and the current government shutdown.

Perry has donated $1.4 million to help families affected by cuts in SNAP benefits.

Tyler Perry, the founder of Tyler Perry Studios and legendary filmmaker and philanthropist, is taking action to support Atlanta residents dealing with food insecurity due to the ongoing government shutdown, which endangers essential food assistance programs.

These funds are being allocated to organizations such as the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Atlanta, and others to assist in providing food and supplies to those in need.

People reported that Tyler Perry has contributed nearly $1.4 million to various organizations that offer food and assistance to families at risk of losing benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The donations were given to various groups, including the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Atlanta, Baby2Baby, Caring for Others, All for Lunch, Goodr, and The Ron Clark Academy.

In a statement to "People" magazine, Perry stated that he felt compelled to take action after discovering that up to 42 million Americans might lose their SNAP benefits because of insufficient federal funding.

"If you've never been poor, then you may not fully understand the life-changing impact SNAP benefits mean to hard-working people, to our seniors, and to our children," Perry said. "For millions of people, it could mean extreme hunger. For newborns, it could mean a lack of access to formula."
