Steve Harvey admits regret over responding to Katt Williams: 'We not even in the same league.'
On the Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast, Williams accused several comedians of lacking humor and plagiarizing comedic material, including Harvey, whom he referred to as "Mr. Potato Head." During the interview, Williams claimed that Harvey stole the concept of his 1990s sitcom from Mark Curry, who starred in Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, couldn't succeed as a movie star, and "criticized" the late comedian and actor Bernie Mac.
At Invest Fest later that year, Steve Harvey publicly responded to Williams' comments, labeling the comedian as "petty" and a "punk-ass" during the Earn Your Leisure panel.
"I just don’t have the quickness I had, but I can still turn my hip and shift that weight, and I’d knock yo’ short ass out,” he said during the event. “I’d shoot yo’ perm straight out yo’ head."
Harvey acknowledged that his comments referred to Williams while appearing on The Pivot Podcast during the episode aired on Tuesday, September 16.
At approximately the 42-minute point, Harvey mentioned that he was "just joking" during Invest Fest and revealed what he would say to Williams if he had the chance.
"If I had a chance to talk to Katt about anything, I would just ask him what's wrong," he said. "Let's go to that. Listen to me, man. Just because a person sits on the show and don't hesitate or say 'um' or 'ah' and speaks eloquently, that don't mean it's true."
Harvey added that he "probably shouldn't have said anything" and that his comments were a "regret."
"I really shouldn't have said nothing, 'cause we not in the same league, dog," Harvey added.
"We shooting at two different baskets. I shouldn't even have said nothing. And so really, man, I think I would apologize to him if he took offense to what I said. I was joking, but I would apologize to him."
Harvey said that viewers should "look at the whole tone of the interview," and that it wasn't rooted in "hate and jealousy."
"And hate and jealousy is a form of grief. You're grieving because obviously allthem people you talking about have something you either want or are something that you ain't and you're grieving and the funeral becomes the podcast," Harvey said.
Harvey discussed his past with Williams during a July episode of The George Janko Show, where Williams allegedly claimed he would "destroy" Harvey following a misunderstanding about a performance.
